Pope of Broadway

Pope Of Broadway

Community members—including Councilmember José Huizar, muralist Eloy Torrez, and actor Edward James Olmos—gathered this week to celebrate the restoration of the legendary “Pope of Broadway” mural. The 70-foot-tall piece, painted by Torrez in 1985, depicts actor and two-time Academy Award winner Anthony Quinn, who was born in Mexico and raised in East Los Angeles. Councilmember Huizar helped secure $150,000 to restore the iconic downtown mural in 2014. See the restored mural here. And the next time you’re downtown, see the restored mural in person at 240 South Broadway.
